Dr. Kousik Deb, Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in the year 2000. He received his Master’s degree in the area of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering in the year 2003 from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur and PhD degree in the area of Geotechnical Engineering in the year 2006 from IIT Kanpur. Dr. Deb has Joined BITS Pilani as a faculty in the year 2006 and later IIT Roorkee in the year 2007 and IIT Kharagpur in the year 2008.
Dr. Deb has made significant contribution in the area of Soft Soil Improvement, Soil-Structure Interaction, Geosynthetic-Reinforced Earth, Soil Arching in Stone Column-Supported Embankments, Dynamic Pavement-Vehicle Interaction, Numerical Modeling, Optimization in Geotechnical Engineering, Evolutionary Approach for Optimal Stability Analysis. The contribution made by Dr. Deb will create an impact on the development of infrastructures like roadways, railways constructed on soft soil, shallow foundation, embankments, storage tanks, heavy industrial equipments, and others. His research will provide an economic and effective solution for the structures that need to be built on soft soil. He has been awarded with number of national and international awards and fellowships like Excellent Paper Award to Junior Individuals from International Association for Computer Methods and Advances in Geomechanics (IACMAG), USA, IEI Young Engineers Award in Civil Engineering discipline from Institution of Engineers (India), DAAD Fellowship for Research Stay at RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He was selected for Endeavour Research Fellowship to undertake a Postdoctoral Research programme in Australia sponsored by Australian Government, Department of Education, Science and Training. Dr. Deb has developed laboratory model testing facilities for model testing of reinforced soil earth, retaining walls, embankment on soft soil. All sponsored research projects are showing the application of research development in the area of construction of structures and infrastructures on improved ground especially on soft soil. He is a member of number of national and international societies. He is developing e-course and video course for B.Tech. and M.Tech students.
